Crisp Criticism - "Alien: Covenant", "Snatched", "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword"

by
Julien Faddoul

Alien: Covenant *

The crew of a colony ship, bound for a remote planet, discover an uncharted paradise with a threat beyond their imagination, and must attempt a harrowing escape.
In many ways, a tighter film than Prometheus (2012) with more focus on scares. But, like all of Scott’s films, it ultimately buckles under the weight of the solemn anthology he thrusts upon it and becomes another unsatisfactory franchise film on autopilot.

Snatched *

When her boyfriend dumps her before their exotic vacation, a young woman persuades her ultra-cautious mother to travel with her to paradise, with unexpected results.
Lamentably dull mother/daughter road trip comedy that moves way too slow. At least it’s short.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Robbed of his birthright, Arthur grows up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy.
Atrocious deconstruction of the Arthurian legend, filled with both clumsy cinematic rhythms and illogical history by one of the hackiest directors working today.
