Sicario **
A
young female FBI agent joins a secret CIA operation to take down a Mexican
cartel boss.
Disturbing, at times exemplary
thriller with a myriad of anxiety and some chilling understated performances. Its
politics will irk some, for its outlook is bleak and its narrative too thin to
carry the weight of its argumentation.

The Intern
A
70-year-old widower discovers that retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be
and becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site.
Clumsy and callow comedy, typical of
its writer/director. As usual, her rendering of the aged and wealthy is affected
to the point of erroneousness.

London Road *
A
musical set during the time of the 2006 serial murders in Ipswich, Suffolk.
Ineffective social commentary on the
current media with a cloying aesthetic ostentatiousness that seems better suited
to the stage.
