For a stellar character supporting turn of the like we haven’t
seen from him in ages. He reminds us how captivating he can be when he tries.
4. Looper – Bruce
Willis
For such a sensitive take on such a bonkers character.
Similar to Mr Jackson, he reminds us how engrossing he can be.
3. Magic Mike – Matthew McConaughey
For giving the great
exhibitionistic performance of the year. The films gains
immeasurably from his flamboyance. Alright, alright, alright.
2. The Master – Philip Seymour Hoffman
For, once again, creating a
whirlpool of a man who proves so, so enthralling. As grandiose as he gets, it
is never false. He really is a master.
1. Lincoln – Tommy Lee Jones
For encompassing all the
social disappointment we have with our civilization in a single facial
expression or vocal tick or limped walk. I dare you to think of anyone on earth
who could have been this commanding yet this inhibited.
Runner Up: Django Unchained – Leonardo DiCaprio
