5. Spotlight – Michael Keaton
For
being the central conscience. He creates a palpable sense of consanguinity that is different with
each scene partner, which is something he's been great at his whole career.
4. Room – Jacob Tremblay
For
accomplishing the hardest assignment for a child actor: creating an actual
child. He's a complete natural and the marvel and wonder contained within his
eyes will stay with me forever.
3. American Ultra – Jesse Eisenberg
For still having the unshakeable capacity for chemistry and
rejected empathy. "I think you're the car and I'm the tree."
2. Experimenter – Peter Sarsgaard
For an extraordinary piece of showmanship. And yet, this is
probably him at his lowest key.
1. Buzzard – Joshua Burge
For the year's most acidic, vile creation. His Keaton-like eyes say it all:
The poisonous face of pure anarchic rage.
Runner
Up: Me and Earl and the Dying Girl – Thomas Mann
