5. Tangerine – Mya Taylor
For
self-confidence layered with vulnerability. And for inhabiting the world so
seamlessly.
4. Clouds of Sils Maria – Kristen Stewart
For
being the queen of naturalism, whether you like it or not. If one observes her
small gestures, the "familiar" woman emerges. Bonus Points: Her lead
performance in American Ultra was even better!
3. The Hateful Eight – Jennifer Jason Leigh
For a characterization so consummate. Every face she pulls,
every gripe she yelps is about something. Bonus points: For giving the best
voice-over performance of the year in Anomalisa.
2. Steve Jobs – Kate Winslet
For buttressing this man's journey with maternal warmth and
refreshing wit. Her lack of vanity is what has always distinguished her among
her peers.
1. Carol – Sarah Paulson
For creating, in only a few scenes, an almighty lady. She is
without a doubt one of the best "supporting" actresses working today.
Runner
Up: Me and Earl and the Dying Girl – Olivia Cooke
