The 2019 Cinema Touch Awards - SUPPORTING ACTOR

by
Julien Faddoul

5. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood – Tom Hanks
For being smart enough to act as a spiritual guide rather than as a scene-stealer. He wisely doesn't attempt too much mimicry and in doing so creates something wholly other and moving.

4. The Irishman – Al Pacino
For the searing volatility that so marvelously characterizes him as an actor. Hoffa's magnetism is completely justifiable.

3. Deadwood – Gerald McRaney
For incandescent application from one of our greatest character actors. He deserves so much credit for making sure Hearst was never merely a dramatical device.

2. Deadwood – Ian McShane
For his concealed vulnerability. This is hardly a supporting performance, but I feel within the gulf of an entire ensemble of truly supporting players, Swearengen is more of an observing angel in the film, unlike the series. Regardless, McShane is an acting force in both.

1. The Irishman – Joe Pesci
My favourite performance by anyone this year, and emotionally unlike anything he's accomplished. Russell's calculated gravitas haunts the whole film and implants into the proceedings the imperial dignity that was the defect of these characters. Magnificent.

Runner Up: Marriage Story – Ray Liotta
